
Scholarships & Grants
The Syracuse Pulp & Paper Foundation provides students in the B.S. Paper Engineering program at SUNY ESF with scholarships and grants that can cover the cost of tuition.
In addition, students in other majors at SUNY ESF can benefit through grants from the SPPF by completing the Paper Science Minor and/or completing internships within the paper industry!
B.S. Paper Engineering Grant
$21,000
Students who graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Paper Engineering with a GPA of 2.5 or higher are eligible to receive a grant worth $21,000!
This is paid out (tax free!) to the student-grantee as a check following graduation.

Other Grants
Management Minor Grant $5,000
Paper Engineering majors at SUNY ESF who complete the Management Minor are eligible for a $5,000 grant.
Paper Engineering Minor Grant or MPS Degree $7,500
All students in any major at SUNY ESF who complete the Paper Science Minor are eligible for a $7,500 grant.
Paper Industry Internship Grant $2,000
All students in any major at SUNY ESF who complete an internship or co-op with a company in the paper or allied industries are eligible for a $2,000 grant. Students may receive this grant a maximum of two times.
FE Exam Sponsorship $175
Students enrolled in the B.S. Paper Engineering major are eligible for sponsorship to cover the cost ($175) of taking the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam while enrolled at SUNY ESF.
Sponsored Scholarships
Sponsored scholarships are awarded to Paper Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Bioprocess Engineering students each semester, with Paper Engineering students having first preference. To qualify, students must maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Applications are not required.
The Grossman Family Foundation Scholarship ~$5,000 (varies)
The Grossman Family Foundation Scholarship is awarded to a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior with financial need who has demonstrated leadership skills and has at least a 3.0 GPA.
The George A. Oechsle Scholarship ~$4,500 (varies)
The George A. Oechsle Scholarship is awarded to a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior with financial need who has demonstrated leadership skills, preferably through participation in TAPPI or PIMA, and has at least a 3.0 GPA.
The Stuart & Cecile Alexander Graduate Fellowship ~$2,000 (varies)
The Alexander Scholarship is awarded to a graduate student in the Paper Engineering program with financial need. U.S. citizenship is required.
Kamala-Devi Recycled Containerboard Scholarship ~$4,500 (varies)
The Kamala-Devi Recycled Containerboard Scholarship is awarded to a Senior or graduate student who has interest in a career in the recycled containerboard sector of the paper industry, demonstrated through work in the industry or project work.
Other Scholarships & Awards
The scholarships and awards below are awarded to students in the Paper Engineering major, with the exception of the Renata Marton award, which is given to a graduate student. To qualify, students must maintain acceptable academic standing. Citizenship requirements are listed within the descriptions below. Applications are not required.
The Sandy & Bill Holtzman Scholarship $500
The Sandy & Bill Holtzman Scholarship is awarded to a non-traditional student in the B.S. Paper Engineering major or in the Paper Engineering MPS program and has made a major career change or is returning to school after major life experiences. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required.
The Nicholas Edward DeCandia Memorial Scholar $750
The Nicholas Edward DeCandia Scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate Paper Engineering student who exhibits integrity, respect for all people, pride of accomplishment and has regard for the welfare of others. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required.
The Renata Marton Award ~$1,500 (varies)
The Renata Marton Scholarship is awarded to a graduate student who most exhibits the qualities of Renata Marton: Research accomplishments, GPA, Recognition by peers for quality of character, willingness to support and guide other students, mentoring, and activity in student affairs. No citizenship requirements.
The Paper Engineering Referral Award $500
Know a student who would be a great fit for the Paper Engineering program? Refer them to the program and collect $500 after they begin the major! Referrals must be made by current Paper Engineering students and qualifying referrals include incoming freshmen, transfer students, or current students at ESF who switch their major to Paper Engineering.
