Explore Paper Engineering

Paper engineers design the sustainable materials and products that power modern life.

The pulp, paper, and allied industries play a vital role in our world—supporting everything from packaging and medical supplies to cosmetics and car parts.

The Syracuse Pulp & Paper Foundation (SPPF) prepares students to lead this essential and evolving field.

In partnership with the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), we help students launch engineering careers that meet the needs of modern society and drive sustainable innovation. Our program removes financial barriers and provides the support, experience, and connections students need to succeed.

A Partnership Built on Success

Since 1960, SPPF has worked alongside industry leaders to develop skilled talent and meet evolving demands.

Our partnership with ESF’s Paper Engineering program creates a powerful pathway from classroom to career.

Students benefit from ESF’s rigorous engineering curriculum—built on math, chemistry, physics, and biology—with specialized courses in pulp and paper engineering. They gain hands-on experience through internships and capstone projects, bridging classroom learning with practical, resume-building opportunities.

SPPF graduates design sustainable products and packaging, improve processes, and strengthen an industry built on renewable resources and responsible manufacturing. Their work benefits the companies they join, the communities they serve, and the environment we all share.

We are cultivating the next generation of engineers who will carry these vital industries forward—stronger, smarter, and more sustainable for generations to come.
